Last week’s Slow Shutter Speed H2O Outing in La Jolla was a smashing success ! (9.27.12) We had a healthy group of 20 and some beautiful light to work with. Thanks to Prez, Jonathan Fennll, for the technical instruction and encouragement.
Great workshop today by Donna Cosentino (9.8.2012). “Creativity in the Photographic Process: finding your Voice, Changing your tune, Doing the Work.” This workshop was the final event of the 2012 Sierra Photo/ MOPA Summer Series. Lots of good feedback from the inspired participants who enjoyed sharing their work in the afternoon session. Thanks to the Museum of Photographic Arts and their very professional staff.
The Los Angeles Architecture/Culture Outing last Sunday (Aug 26, 2012) was a great success ! We all learned a thing or two about Metrolink Travel and are eager to explore Los Angeles again. Upon arrival at Union Station, we were lucky enough to see a dramatic dance performance take place in the lovely atrium. Genaro Molina, our last year’s Summer Series kick off speaker was there shooting the event for the Los Angeles Times and we were able to witness a real photojournalist in action. An easy walk around the interesting streets of downtown LA brought us to Olvera Street Plaza, Grand Central Market, Disney Concert Hall and Museum of Contemporary Art….and we all enjoyed practicing some street shooting along the way. The 4:40pm train had us cruising into Oceanside just in time for dinner at Breakwater Brewing Company, where some cold beer and hot pizza really hit the spot. Thanks to the nice group of 12 for a productive day out.
Thank you, Don Bartletti, for the very inspiring workshop today at MOPA (8.12.12). We are ready to roam the streets with our wide angles and use our new skills in documentary photography. This was the third event in the Sierra Photo Club/ MOPA Summer Series. Don’t miss Donna Cosentino’s workshop in September. There are just a few spots left so register soon !
Thanks for all who attended the Phil Borges lecture on July 18 at the Hall of Champions. What a great turnout and successful book signing. Welcome to our new members. See you at the next meeting! The Michael Spengler “Natural Light Portraiture” workshop sold out for the second year in a row and was a great experience for all. Thank, Michael. We hope to work with you again someday.
The Union-Tribune Photographer lecture at MOPA was a big success. We had 104 photo enthusiasts in attendance ! What a great group of old friends turned out….who had a nice time catching up and talking shop. Many thanks to K.C. Alfred, John Gastaldo and Howard Lipin, our local PJ heroes. (Nelvin Cepeda was on assignment in Afghanistan and was unable to attend so John Gastaldo filled in and was a wonderful addition to the evening.)
